The short version

Everyone here is at a different point in a hard road. Treat that with the respect you'd want if the roles were reversed.

Do

Be honest about where you're at, even on the bad days. Encourage people without judging their pace. Keep what's shared in a group or forum thread where it was shared — don't screenshot or repeat someone else's story elsewhere without their permission. Use the Report button on anything that crosses a line instead of arguing it out in public.

Don't

No harassment, hate speech, or discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or the specific challenge someone's facing. No glorifying or providing instructions for self-harm, substance use, or disordered eating. No soliciting — selling products, services, or "opportunities" outside of the provider tools built for that purpose. No sharing someone else's identifying details without their consent, even with good intentions. No practicing medicine or giving specific clinical/medication advice — share your own experience, not a diagnosis.

If you're in crisis

The forums and messages here aren't monitored in real time. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, don't wait for a reply — call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call SAMHSA's helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357), or call 911.

Mentors and mentees

Mentoring here is peer support, not clinical supervision. Mentors aren't vetted credentialed counselors unless they say so and you've verified it yourself. Mentors: keep the relationship focused on your mentee's recovery, not your own unresolved stuff. Mentees: you can end a mentor relationship at any time, no explanation required.

Recovery programs

If your recovery home or treatment program uses Amity Connect with you, staff can assign workbook exercises but can only read what you explicitly choose to share, one exercise at a time, revocable any time. If a program asks you to share more than that outside the app, or pressures you around what you share, tell us at hello@amityconnect.com.

How reports get handled

Any post, forum thread, or reply can be reported. Content that reaches three open reports is automatically hidden pending review. A moderator then restores it, keeps it hidden, or removes it permanently — and can act on a single serious report without waiting for three.

Consequences

Depending on severity: a content removal, a warning, a temporary restriction, or account termination. Serious violations (threats, illegal content, targeting a specific person) can result in immediate termination without warning.
